Location
The photo was taken during a drive by of a field in Lichfield in the uk. Remember to always keep your camera with you whenever possible as you never know what you are going to miss. Unless you do exetnsive research or a have a large budget to creat your own backdrop, you never know when that amazing opportunity will hit you. We also had a litt experiment in the adjacent poppy field but I found the contrasting colour better in this field.Time
The shot was taken mid afternoon in the middle of UK summer time and I was very lucky with the location and the potaition of the sun.Lighting
It was a very sunny day and luckily had the sun to the side lighting up the subject perfectly.Equipment
My trusty Canon 7d nd nifty fifty f1.8 budget lens....well done Canon for the production of a superb kens at very low cost :-)Inspiration
Originally the glowing red of the poppy fields as I was driving through the country side. Unfortunately when I got out of the car the Poppy fields werent as dense as I would have liked and from a distance looked great but not close up with a subject.Editing
Very very subtle lighting adjustments with a touch of Glow was all that was required for post processing. Also I believe in using budget software to get the look I need as this makes it all part of the challenge to get good images from budget software...I nearly always use the wonderful free picasa. My wife always uses Lightroom and Photoshop, but she is a professional. In my camera bag
My Canon 7d with battery grip. 100-400mm 4.5 L lens, Canon 50mm 1.8. , canon 40mm 2.8 pancake and a Rocket lens blower.Feedback
I think next time I would have chosen a late afternoon shot to get more contrast. My subject was my daughter who loves a pose or two, I found it better for her to just wander amongst the flowers rather than pose for the camera. Its funny but I always think you can capture the mind of the subject better when they dont know you are shooting them. As I said previously dont forget to take your camera and kit wherever you go and whenever possible. Happy Shooting ????
