I took this photo at the Valdes Peninsula in Argentina.. It was right after winter and some penguins were building their nests while others were pointing their heads towards the sky making strange noises as if they were trying to attract attention to themselves.Time
It was probably taken between 12h and 14h. I'd met a french couple that gave me a ride in their mini van along the coast and we did a few stops to watch the penguins, wales and sea lions.Lighting
Not really, the sun was high in the sky and spread its light throughout the beach..Equipment
Nothing special, just a Nikon D5200, no tripod, flash, post-editing...Inspiration
I remember reading somewhere that penguins only fall in love once, and stay together until death separates them. Whenever this happens, the brokenhearted male or female remaining will try every year to find a lover. But never again will he/she fall in love again.. Near the beach I noticed this fellow was going back and forth his mouth full with new components for his nest. So I waited until I could get a nice clean shot of this marital gesture.Editing
No. I very rarely work on post-processing. I prefer keeping it between the world and my camera. I always loved this instant of creation, you simply click on a button yet all your configurations, your eye, the subject, the light... everything spins around and converges in one picture. In my camera bag
I'm only an amateur photographer, a young one too. So I don't really have the money to buy any equipment. That's why all I have in my bag is my camera (nikon d5200) and my second lens (18-55mm). I usually use my primary lens 70-300mm although it is completely manual because the 18-55mm hasn't got a wide angle, making the contours of most pictures blurry..Feedback
Prepare your trip if you are heading to Valdes peninsula since all animals and birds cannot be seen all year round, so you might want to be sure of when to go if there are some animals or birds you wish to see in particular.. Also try renting a car if you want interesting lighting, because the peninsula in a 60km2 natural parc which can only be done through agencies: so with strict hours, or with a rented car (or hitch hicking :) )
