Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken at my home in Athlone, Ireland. As a self taught photographer I enjoy the challenge of capturing moments like these of my niece. Having an image library that spans from when she was born until now , the above, makes me happy. I can't help but smile when looking back through them.

Time

This image was taken in the middle of summer, an exceptional summer it was. As with most people from Ireland we are not very well acquainted with the sun, so when we do actually get consecutive weeks of it, smiles come more easily.

Lighting

All natural light, a pair of glass doors and a big window filled the room with lovely warm light.

Equipment

Nikon d300s 70-200 F2.8 at 5.6 iso 1250 1/100

Inspiration

My boisterous niece was in a happy , laughy sort of mood. Always a good time to break out the camera. I get a real kick out of showing her mother the images afterwards. Capturing moments like these makes it all worthwhile.

Editing

Some minor tweaks in lightroom, white balance that sort of thing.

In my camera bag

d300s, 70-200 F2.8, 24-70 F2.8, 50 1.8, sb910 (and sb700 just in case), shutter release, 3legged thing tripod (Brian) uhhhhh please don't rob me.

Feedback

With taking pictures of kids I find their attention span is anything but infinite, you need to be fast. Kids, especially the one above do not, for the most part like cordoned off or made stand still. I like to just sit back and more times than not something photo worthy will happen. I prefer natural non posed images.
