This photo was taken in my patio (I live in San Jose, California). We have a lot of Ruby Throated Hummingbirds in our area. This hummingbird is a male because only males have ruby feathers on the throat and head.Time
It was sunny day, you need a lot of light "to freeze" flight.Lighting
I used external flash for this shot.Equipment
This was shot on my Canon 60D with Canon 70-200 mm lens and Canon Speedlite 430EX II. Speedlite was on on camera.Inspiration
It's very interesting for me to shoot hummingbirds, but I still not very happy with my photos of this very fast birds.Editing
I always do post-processing because I sell my images at Shutterstock, iStock, Dreamstime. I use Photoshop CS6 and Imagenomic Noiseware Professional. This image had a lot of noise (ISO 800) before post-processing. Also original image had red feeder which I removed from photo using Photoshop. Hummingbird was flying towards feeder. In my camera bag
Normally I have my Canon 60 D and Canon EF 17-55mm lens, Canon 50mm lens, hood and Canon Cameras US 2602A001 77mm Protect Filter. I don't have Canon 70-200 mm in bag very often because it's very heavy.Feedback
When I took this picture I didn't do search how to shoot hummingbirds and I had only one speedlite. But later I found very interesting and useful blog: http://travelthroughpictures.com/photo-items/how-to-photo-hummingbirds-1/ Also this one very useful too: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Photography-Tips/hummingbird-photography-tips.aspx
