Location
This photo was taken at the Matterhorn near Zermatt Switzerland. We were taking the train up towards the glacier and stopped off about 2 stop from the top. We went down a small hiking trail and found this lake that fit perfect into the foreground.Time
This was taken probably mid-morning, somewhere in the 9-11am range.Lighting
The lighting is simply what Mother Nature provided at the time.Equipment
I know most won't believe me on this, but that was taken with a Canon point and shoot camera. I didn't own my T4i that I have currently at the time (this was taken in 2007) and the only thing I had was the point and shoot camera.Inspiration
The scenery itself was the inspiration. Switzerland is a beautiful country, and this spot in particular was just amazing to see. The reflection in the lake was one of the big draws for me, as I found it amazing that late in the morning the lake was still calm enough for that good of a reflection.Editing
There is no post-processing to this picture. It was taken way before I even thought about using Photoshop, and I like looking at it and knowing it is exactly what I saw when I was there. In my camera bag
My bag has changed since this photo was taken. I still shoot with Canon cameras, but now I use a T4i body. I have the 18-135 STM lens, a Canon 50MM f1.8 as well as a Canon 70-300 that I mostly use for sports photography. I have a Canon 430EX II flash as well as a MEFoto tripod that I like because it has the convertible mono-pod feature. It is far from a "professional" setup, but as an advanced amateur it suits me and my budget well, and is a few steps up from my Canon point and shoot.Feedback
The best advice I can offer is know your motivation. For me my motivation when I was shooting this was to bring home a great photo from a great trip. It was our first time to Switzerland and I wanted to be able to look back and remember our trip as best I could. I would also say don't feel like you have to have the very top of the line everything in camera equipment. Some of my favorite photos I've taken with a point and shoot or my cell phone. If there is a specific angle you can envision, make it happen. This was actually a few hundred feet off the "main" trail, but for this angle it was worth the small detour to get the photo.
