I took this picture of my friend in London's busy Oxford St. Since it's always crowded, it was really difficult to make him the main subject of the picture. To overcome this, I decided to slow the shutter speed and blur the crowd, while my friend remained still.

The thing that puts photography ahead of painting is a shot like this. Unique in art form only to photography. This is great!!!!!!!!

Location
The photo was taken in London's busy Oxford Street. In a place that is constantly alive with tourists and shopaholics, it was almost impossible to get a good shot of my subject before the sun sets. I am a self taught photographer and decided to use what I had learned the previous week about shutter speed. I asked my subject to remain still and explained that I will be using a slow shutter speed to blur the moving crowd.Time
I took this image during the last minutes before the sun had set.Lighting
Lighting was a big issue for us as we had an array of lights beaming from the store fronts. We had to seriously think about our location and which store lights would best suit the image we were shooting for. We also had to try different shutter speeds to get the right amount of light without over exposing the image.Equipment
I used my Canon 5D Mk III and a Canon 24-105 lens at f/10. For the tripod I used a MANFROTTO BeFree Tripod.Inspiration
The inspiration for this photo comes from my love for the fast passed life in London. I wanted to capture the movement and convey this sense of a constantly busy environment in my photo.Editing
Other than minor color correction in Lightroom 5. Whenever I shoot I always sing the following in my mind to keep me focused "Edit less, shoot more. Compose well and shoot RAW"In my camera bag
It really depends on what I am shooting on the day. If I am going out on a street photography shoot, I always take my Fuji x100t. It's small, discreet and does an amazing job. If I am shooting buildings, or landscape I typically take my Canon 5D MK III along with a 16-35mm and a 24-105mm lens. I carry 4 batteries for each body and no less than 6 fast memory cards with tons of gigabytes!Feedback
I don't think I can give advice just yet but from the little experience that I have thus far I will say the following: Take your time to observe your environment. Think about what it is that you want to capture and talk yourself through the process. What shutter speed will you use and at what f stop? Don't rush, photography is an Art. Take one or two shots at different exposures and find the one that works best for your creative style. Finally I would say have fun, lots of it! I always find that my best pictures are the ones taken when I am laughing or smiling. Having a positive attitude will help your subject to relax and this will always show in the final image.
