Location
This photo, is taken in Norway, old gas station from the 50/60`s. Today its is a small museum. Location; Borgheim, Notteroy Island. Many people have bought this image from me, as wall prints.Time
This shot was taken early afternoon. Natural light.Lighting
Slightly overcast, semi soft light, shadows "pulled" up in post processing. Blue tone colors are toned down, through channel mixer i photoshop. "In the old days", I used to shoot on black and white film, and used red color filters, or orange/yellow to filters to lessen out the blue tones, thereby, getting dark contrasts in the sky between the clouds..Equipment
Camera: Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II (2005) no tripod, freehand exposure. Aperture: f/7.1 ISO: 50 Exposure: 1/125 Focal Length: 18/1Inspiration
I am always drawn to old things and buildings, I had spotted this location out for quite a while. But was waiting for the right light, and the right sky. This shot was actually one of my first digital camera shots, my first digital camera I owned, bought around late 2004. I like the old classic americana photogrhaphers from the early 19th century. Like Ansel Adams, Edward Weston etc. So its kind of a homage to that era, and style. Powerful contrast, and a straight approach to composition.Editing
This image is a coluor shot, from digital file. I have converted the image, using photoshop. But have filtered out allot of the red rays in the light, from the sky, to get those deep contrast. I have used some shadow and highlight adjustments in the foreground. Since this shot was taken quite low, and using a wide angel, I have also corrected the "falling" lines. So the building appears straight and centred. In my camera bag
Today, I have a canon 5d camera mark2, with 24-70, and 70-200 mm lenses, a small flash with softbox, a tripod, remote release, a pola filter, and a range of ND filters. I also bring along a 100 mm macro lens. Sometimes a big and heavy tripod, or a small lighter one.Feedback
When shooting bright objects, like here. Underexpose a little, then pull the values up again in post processing. Filtering out the correct colour rays for a best back and white results, are essential. Pay attention to your sky, clouds etc. Early morning og late afternoon are best times for such images. Pay attention to parallell lines in architecture, composition and so forth. Post processing was quite heavy for this image. Use a tripod, to get an accurate framing, if your are not very experienced in freehand shooting.
