Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Goliad, Texas on the side of an old house we own.

Time

This was taken in the middle of the day.

Lighting

It was a very cloudy day, so there was no harsh light.

Equipment

This was taken with a Canon Rebel XSi using a EF 50 mm f/2.5 Compact Macro lens. This was hand held and I did not use a flash. My exposure was 1/250, f-stop was 4.0 and the iso was 200. I was within a couple feet from the wasps. Luckily they were behaving very calm.

Inspiration

The wall of the house was gray which was a nice contrast to their yellow. They really stood out.

Editing

Just the basic exposure compensation, a little sharpening and some cropping.

In my camera bag

Now I have a Canon t3i, and a tamron 18-270mm lens. I usually carry an extra 50 mm lens, extra sd cards and extra batteries. I try to have a tripod available.

Feedback

Keep a camera close. You never know when you may come upon something interesting. I am still learning all things photography, but as I practice I see improvements. Also be flexible. You may have one thing in mind but something else entirely comes up.
