Location
This photo was taken in the front yard of our home shortly after we got our Newfoundland puppy, Pe'a, (pronounced Pay-uh and means bear) and my new camera. I'm not a professional photographer. I enjoy capturing moments in my life that I can look back on and remember and nothing stimulates a person's memory more than a photo.Time
This photo was taken on our first potty trip of the morning, so around 7 a.m. and it would have been in March of 2008 during a Spring snowstorm. I had to run back into the house to get the camera so I could capture this moment with the snow flakes sticking to her face!Lighting
To be honest, I got lucky with the lighting that morning. It was on a cloudy, kind of dreary, snowy day here in Wyoming. I had taken a few shots of her at a distance playing in the snow, but this one captured her beautiful blue eyes and the playfulness that is a puppy. Nothing better than burying your face in the snow and coming up this cute!Equipment
At the time, I had just purchased a new Canon EOS REBEL XS and that is what I captured this image with. The lens is a Canon Zoom Lens EF-S 18-55mm. No flash, no tripod, just the a quick snap with the camera.Inspiration
I was inspired to take this photo because Pe'a was so stinking adorable with the snowflakes all over her face! I enjoy close up photography. I want to see a subjects eyes, their emotion... no matter what that emotion might be. Eyes tell a person's/animal's story. Pe'a's story that day... "I love this snow!"Editing
I think I cropped this picture but other than that there was no post-processing.In my camera bag
As I am heading out the door, I grab my Canon EOS REBEL XS which has a Canon Zoom Lens EF-S 18-55 mm lens on it. I like having a camera that does a lot of the work as when I am out shooting I typically have our dog with me and my son who has autism, so there is not a lot of time to pause and really study a shoot before I snap it.Feedback
First... teach the puppy to sit! Haha! I wanted to capture the whole of who Pe'a was at that moment, which was a puppy who had been out enjoying her morning in the snow. Take many shots, especially when your subject doesn't always willingly sit still! The more shots you take the more likely you are to get one that captures the moment, colors, lighting, composition and distance... all the elements that make a good picture.
