Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken near Burritt's Rappids, Ontario. Canada. A small comunity located south of the City of Ottawa, Ontario.

Time

Early morning was when this image was created. I drive into Ottawa for work every morning and leaving early gives me the opportunity to witness beautiful sunrises.

Lighting

All natural lighting is provided by the rising sun, the trees casting shadows adding some contrast and mood to the image.

Equipment

The camera used for this image was my go-to Canon EOS 5D with a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. Handheld in Apperture Priority Mode.

Inspiration

I drive by this location on a daily basis and had never taken the time to stop and photograph. Seeing the sunrise through the trees every morning as I drive by, always saying to myself i have to stop and take a few pictures. I have seen similar images here on Viewbug and always wanted to take my own. So one morning in the fall I decided to stop and this image was the result. I am glad I stopped and took the time to capture one of many beautiful sunrises.

Editing

Lightroom 5 was used to do a little sharpening and a little saturation adjustment.

In my camera bag

I am a Canon shooter so my bag usually has at the ready my 5D, 7D and 1DMKII bodies with a full compliment of Canon, Tokina and Sigma Lenses. Ranging from 11mm up to 400mm. My go-to lenses are Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM, Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L USM. I also have my Induro Tripod with me with RRS Ball head and Quick release plate.

Feedback

Weather it be sunrises or sunsets the advice I would give would be to actually take the time to photograph them. Also revisiting the same locations over and over as no two sunrises or sunsets are alike. Although this image was taken handheld I do advise using a tripod to ensure tack-sharp images when shooting landscapes. Finally it's simple, just slow down and enjoy what is around us every day take the time to do what you love doing. Cheers, John.
