Located at the Buzludzha mountain peak in the Balkan mountains in Central Bulgaria stands the now, abandoned concrete “spaceship building” known as The Buzludzha Monument. Serving as the communist party headquarters, it was built by the Bulgarian communist regime in 1891.
It’s location was the site of the final battle between the Bulgarians and the Turks, in 1868.
In 1989 Bulgarian communism ended and the building was abandoned shortly afterwards. Although hated by most Bulgarians, it is, nevertheless a magnificent piece of architecture now left to the ravages of the weather and vandalism
