Along the edge of Lake Casitas in Ventura County, Calif., a mature Red-Tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) soars from a tree with an American Coot (Fulica americana) in its talons. Moments earlier the hawk dive-bombed the water silently and effortlessly snatched the coot, however, a quiet tree to eat in could not found thanks to the heckling of nearby crows.
