We have had my large Sagurao type cactus for at least 10 years in my cactus and succulent collection. This is the first time it has flowered. The flowers are large about 15 cm across, The flowers hang down and the soft light at sunset brings out the pastel yellow and white in the flowers. These flowers only last 48 hours. then the cactus may not flower for another 10 years

Gorgeous flower. In our culture, it's considered lucky to have these bloom in one's house. Many people plant the flowers but they don't bloom. Looks like you've had a stroke of luck. :)

I took this shot from our back garden, the flower was a large 30cm long pure white flower of a 2 metre tall Pachycereus marginatus in the Mexican gardenTime
this was at sunset, in the middle of summer, as the soft light shines through the pure white petalsLighting
no all-natural light, i didnt need any extra lighting as nature took care of thatEquipment
the only equipment I used was my trusty Nikon D5300 and my good 35mm kit lens - I got down under the flower on my knees on the surrounding rocks in the garden and took the shotInspiration
The light and the flower as both only last a very quick time, the sunset for a few minutes and the huge flower for 24 hours, this cactus rarely flowers so to see the flower was a once in a lifetime event.Editing
no post-processing other than a crop and quick curves adjustment, nature doesn't need much the light was perfectIn my camera bag
mostly the usual Nikon camera, 5 lenses, and spare battery, and that's it. I keep it simple and easy to carryFeedback
just grab the moment, as it is fleeting, the sunset only happens for such a short time, sometimes the best photo is the simplest
