Nice! I've done this hike - there was no water when I went so I'll have to go back! It's a pretty hike!

Thanks. I went back there a few weeks ago. I had noticed a waterfall at the far end of the lake. It's a bit of a trek to get there, but it's worthwhile. But, get there earlier in the day, or you might get chased off the mountain by lightning like I was! :-)

I love the arrangement of the people in this photograph! It really tells a story wonderfully! Excellent work! I look forward to seeing much more!

Thanks. I can't tell you how many times I had to go down there and rearrange the people. They kept moving. :-D

Location
This was taken at Lake Isabelle, an alpine lake in the Indian Peaks Wilderness west of Boulder, Colorado. Elevation at the lake is just under 11,000 ft.Time
This was taken in the afternoon at about 3:30.Lighting
Lighting was difficult, as I was shooting sort of into the Sun, and the clouds in that direction were very bright, but parts of the mountains and the lake were very dark. So, I bracketed the exposures and did a mild HDR treatment in post-processing.Equipment
Canon T3i, 18-55mm lens at 18mm, tripod. f8, 1/60sec, ISO-100.Inspiration
This lake is picturesque almost all the time in any weather, in my opinion. I hike up to Lake Isabelle a couple of times a year. I was preparing to make a different photograph when I noticed how everyone seemed to be just enjoying the sights, and it seemed a natural photograph to make.Editing
The three raw images I made of this scene were combined in Photomatix Pro to help even out the exposure and to eliminate the blown out highlights. In my camera bag
When hiking in the Rocky Mountains I carry my camera equipment in a Lowepro Flipside Sport 15L AW backpack. Inside are my Canon T3i, three lenses covering the range from 18mm through 250mm, filters including two ND filters, polarizers, etc., extra batteries and SDRAM cards, a Rode stereo video mic pro, two small flexible tripods, and a water bladder. On the outside are my larger Slik tripod, an umbrella, and bear spray (I sometimes hike in Yellowstone in the earlier morning hours).Feedback
Get out and go where the pictures are (to paraphrase someone paraphrasing Ansel Adams) - and bring your camera with you. :-) If lighting is too extreme, bracket and consider applying HDR techniques to the extent needed to present the feel of the moment.
