Great colour, beautiful composition, love how the milky way makes the person look so small.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on the headland at Les Landes on the beautiful island of Jersey. Jersey is only 9x5 miles located between the UK and France.

Time

This shot taken in the early hours

Lighting

The Milky Way does all the lighting for you!

Equipment

Nikon D800, Nikon Nikkor 14-24mm @14mm, Manfrotto tripod

Inspiration

Myself and my good friend Marc Whitehead went out to shoot the Milky Way, we decided to try and find a new location so we headed to the northwest of Jersey where there is little light pollution to try and get the best of the milky way. Marc volunteered to go to the top of the hill and luckily I managed to get this shot.

Editing

This is a single exposure, I brought out the milky way in photoshop with some dodging and burning

In my camera bag

I have a Nikon D750 and always carry my 14-24mm and a 85mm and a tripod, I always try to not carry a lot so its easier climbing to some great locations

Feedback

For anyone trying to capture the Milky way my advice would be to head to the darkest place you can find. Using a wide angle lens is best and start off with 25 second exposures, ISO 3200, White balance 3800. that should be good as a starting point.
