Behind The Lens

Location

Took this photo at the Hasselblad studio in London, during a competition final for Advanced Photographer Magazine in association with Hasselblad & Broncolor. I was one of six finalists competing for the font cover and the studio for a whole day. As it turned out I won the competition with a similar image.

Time

It was around 14:30.

Lighting

My key light was the Broncolor Para 222 , also known to many photographers as the "Death Star"...

Equipment

The camera was the Hasselblad H5D with a 50mm lens, shot handheld at f/11, 1/250 sec, iso-100. As the key light the Broncolor Para 222, two strobe heads with barn doors for the back ground. Oh yes...and the solid wood table that I dragged from the top lounge, down some very steep stairs.

Inspiration

This photo was taken at a fashion photo competition. What set me apart was my play with the posing of the model and the symmetry it created with the lines of her body and the table.

Editing

Some simple skin cleaning and a bit of smoothing, some light exposure and contrast adjustments.

In my camera bag

Normanly two flashes, couple of lenses - a 18-55mm and a 50mm, ND & ND GRAD filters, rogue gels, cleaning gear, and spares of what ever I think might be needed for the day.

Feedback

Well...do the best you can with what you got I suppose. I dragged this table down some steep stairs, with some of the other finalists giggling as I did it...but hey it won me the competition! Just go for it.
