Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in a park near my school when I was there to have lunch, then I saw this leaf trapped in webs.

Time

I remember I was there to have lunch with my friends, it was a little passed noon. my friends were calling me and I was trying to get the shot, cuz I had no proper equipment in the moment and it took me some time.

Lighting

nothing special, cuz it's done in natural light and as you see, I just get in the back of it to have some nice rim lights and I was lucky with some bokeh, made by toys in the park.

Equipment

I used my only DSLR, Canon 500D with the only lens that I had in that time, a 18-55mm kit lens. nothing else.

Inspiration

as I told, I was lucky to see this little leaf, but I'm always looking for strange stuff around me to shoot.

Editing

I just did a little color correction on this shot.

In my camera bag

back then when I took this shot, i had only my camera and it's kit lens, but now I have more equipment and more experience indeed. now, a 50mm f1.8 II is always on my camera. a (yongnuo) yn-560II speedlight is always in my bag, it's one of the best things I've ever bought and it changed my photography style a lot. I have a small defuser for my speedlight and a little 2 sided reflector that are always useful to me. there are other equipments that I use depend on my project, like Phottix Aster Wireless Flash Trigger Set for strobe photography and a Opteka fisheye converter, which is so fun to use in casual photos. as a coincidence I bought myself a 100mm f2.8 macro and I love this lens and it's gonna be my queen.

Feedback

the moment I took this shot, I had a lens with a small aperture but because of distance of background objects, I got a good result, but I suggest a lens with a wide aperture, something like 50mm f1.8 II, which is a sharp and awesome affordable lens. a tripod can be very handy too, cuz it can be windy and leaves move a lot for themselves, so it keeps your camera stay steady.
