Behind The Lens
Location
Alverstone on the Isle of WightTime
This was taken around 1pm on the 27th November 2014Lighting
The lighting was actually quite good considering it was November and it was very overcast and damp, and it rained about an hour later.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS 500D, with a EF-S 55-250mm canon lens, as this is the biggest zoom lens i own, and i had to take the photos from the road. I had the settings on iso 200, 135mm, 0 ev, F5, 1/80, and set to cloudy in camera. There wasn't time to set up my tripod, so i hand held or rested the camera on the metal gate.Inspiration
I had gone out with a friend and we decided to go to the squirrel hide down in Alverstone. On the way we saw these cows in a field and stopped on a very narrow country lane to take some photos as i had never seen this type of cow up close before. Unfortunalty we could only stay for 5 minutes as the lane wasn't wide enough to stop, and cars couldn't pass us.Editing
I used On-1 software for this photo with one of my own presets in effects. I started post processing images with On-1 as it was very easy to use when starting out. But now i am slowly getting the hang of Photoshop CC and do all my post processing in that and Lightroom. In my camera bag
I had to upgrade my camera as the 500D was too noisy for my liking. I now have a Canon 70D with a variety of lenses and i take them all with me, as i never know what i might need. canon kit lens 18-55mm. canon zoom 55-250mm. Canon 50mm. Canon wide angle 10-18mm. And my absolute favourite is my Tamron 90mm.Feedback
I don't really have any advice on capturing this type of image. I would just say, take all the lenses you have (with in reason lol) just incase you see something that inspires you enough to get your camera out. I didn't go out to take this image, i was actually going somewhere else to take photos. We saw these cows as we were passing, so always keep your eyes open :)
