Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken in Iowa Park, Texas.

Time

This was taken about 30 minutes before sunset in the winter time so about 4.30 pm.

Lighting

It was winter, and cold and dreary.. but it set a great mood. I had them face the direction of the light.

Equipment

This was a Nikon D 4s with a 70-200 vr 11. No flash and no tripod. I know a lot of photographers would cringe, but i never use a tripod on location. I just don't see it, especially when you have children involved.

Inspiration

I love the interaction between people and their animals and asked her to squat down and nuzzle the horse...

Editing

Yes! I almost always add contrast and sharpening and go for rich , clean edits.

In my camera bag

My FAVORITE lens is my Nikon 200 mm f.2 and i use it whenever i can! My second favorite is the 70-200 vr 11. I always have at least two cameras with me, my D 4s and D 810 and a lot of times i have my third, the D 4. I don't like to change lenses outside so i keep the 200 F.2 on the D 4s , the 70-200 on the D 810 and usually a wide angle , the 24-70 the most. Probably my other favorite lens is my macro lens the 105. I am loving constant lighting, and love the use the ice light outdoors when needed.

Feedback

Patience, always! Know what you are going for before you get to your session. I almost always spend 30 minutes to an hour a day on inspiration before a session. I try to plan out exactly what i want. Does that always happen? No, hardly ever! Especially with animals and children!
