As a student photographer at Victor Valley College, I took this image in studio as an assignment. We were to photograph shiny metal.Time
It was done in studio, so the time of day didn't matter.Lighting
I used very old lighting equipment with 3 settings low medium and high. I also used a homemade diffusion tent and a 2 light set up.Equipment
Shot with a Canon Rebel T3i with a 17-50mm 2.8 Tamron lens. Studio strobe, diffusion tent.Inspiration
At the time my son was taking trumpet lesson at school, and the trumpet was the largest shiny metal object in the house. I thought I could incorparate his instrument and the large music book together. I made several attempts by placing the book standing up and behind the trumpet. I tried different compositions but nothing really worked especially with such a confined area as the tent. It wasn't until the last couple of shots with the bell turned to the camera that I really liked the notes reflecting back at the camera that I feel I got what I was looking for.Editing
I did very little. In Photoshop I did a levels adjustment, bumped up the vibrance/saturation and sharpened it up a little. In my camera bag
Camera: Canon Rebel T3i Lens: Canon 50 mm 1.4 usm Yongnuo YN560-II Speedlite Computer: Asus Labtop Small Intuos 5 Wacom Tablet Polaris Light MeterFeedback
If I could do it over, I would have tried looking for a music sheet with more notes, and I would little the bell more and possible get an instrument with a larger bell too. Keep trying different compositions, I tried at least ten different angles until i finally got it to where I liked what I saw on the back of my camera.
