Behind The Lens

Location

This Allium flower was taken in my garden using a Canon 40d with a 60mm lens, suitable for close-up work. I am very pleased with the result!

Time

Taken on a relatively sunny day (for Wales!), the lighting enabled vibrant colour.

Lighting

Always check that the lighting -be it natural or artificial brings the subject to life.

Equipment

Canon 40D with 60mm Canon Macro lens, and a tripod. I used a shutter release.

Inspiration

I love flowers, as I feel the form and colour to be magical!

Editing

No processing apart from cropping.

In my camera bag

Canon 40D. Canon 60mm Macro lens, Canon 75-300 telephoto lens and a Canon 17-40 zoom lens. 1 cheap ring light. 1 shutter release. Lens brush. Camera manual.

Feedback

Use a tripod. Focus the shot-take a long time over this. Set the aperture to suit the conditions. Ensure stillness in subject. Take lots of shots- vary the settings a little. Take from different angles, so you can select what you prefer.
