Behind The Lens

Location

I took this Photo while running along banks of Rock Creek, Montana. A normal hang out for Big Horns not to far from home. My son was along on this expedition. He spotted this fella looking at fence and put me on just in time.

Time

This was taken Mid Morning early fall during Rut for Big horns.

Lighting

The lighting is all natural. Still hanging a little low prior to mid day.

Equipment

I shoot with Nikon equipment. Usually have a couple cameras running at once.

Inspiration

I find Big Horns fascinating. They have such a cool social structure. The more I observe them the more I enjoy observing them. This big guy was the Alpha at this time I followed him around as much as I could this particular day.

Editing

This image is just as it was when taken. Slight cropping to pull it in a lil better. It is one in series of seven.

In my camera bag

I do not have much fancy equipment. Usually running with tripod standard cleaning equipment, extra batteries, and cards. And bear spray always bear spray.

Feedback

I would advise finding a spot where they frequent and wait. Here in Montana there is several areas to get within a close distance. Big Horns can sit for long while without moving at times. And other times they are very active with social circle of group. Lots of rubbing and some head smacking. Time is your best friend with these guys and gals. I find Mornings and evenings best for most activity.
