I am blessed to live in one of the most beautiful provinces in Canada, Beautiful British Columbia. This picture was taken in my backyard, amongst the poplar trees, lady slippers and wild lilies.Time
It was taken in the early afternoon.Lighting
Its a tricky spot to shoot in. The light comes in through the poplars different throughout the day. Normally I shoot here in the golden hour, but this shot, I decided I wanted a bit more sunshine, so took a chance on an afternoon shoot. It worked out I think :)Equipment
Camera (Canon) 300mm lens, Tripod, no flash.Inspiration
My gorgeous daughter and breathtaking palomino gelding! I've wanted to do a shoot with these two for a while now. I saw in my mind how incredible it could be to do a shoot with my two blondes ;) I had Taylor put on a white flowing dress and bathed shady up to a shine. He's one of those horses that's just a once in a lifetime kind of horse. He stood for the shoot, as I knew he would, patiently, Taylor looked completely content and in so much piece on him. I took a few shots, but when she laid down putting her arms around him, I knew, this is the shot I'd be seeing in my mind.Editing
Yes, a few different overlays to create the soft glow and illumination. I wanted this shot to look and feel like it was meant to, like a dream or fantasy. In my camera bag
My Canon camera, 55mm portrait lens and my 300mmFeedback
My only advice, what I do anyway, is I get a picture in my mind of what I want to create, and then get as close to that as I'm able to. Sometimes it takes me a long time to get it right. It's funny, but every time I try to force the characters in my shoot to be or feel or act a certain way, I don't seem to get that special moment Im hoping for. So, often, I wait and watch the subjects, suddenly, they seem to come together to give me exactly what I was looking for. This is when they're not trying, or "acting" the part. Capturing those special moments even when you're staging them. I guess what it is and what my advice is to others trying to capture what they see in their minds, is, patience.
