This photo was taken in one of the graffiti lanes in Melbourne, Australia. I'm pretty much a learner at present but I have found that I really like street photography. I come from a fairly small town in New Zealand so going to a culturally diverse city such as Melbourne for a holiday, was an exciting photography adventure for me. I really lucked-in with these two buskers in one of the lanes and once I had their permission to take a few shots, this was the photo I was most happy with.Time
I ended up taking this about 3ish on an autumn afternoon , not by design but rather by necessity, time-wise.Lighting
The lighting played out nicely for me because to be honest I had very little idea about what lighting conditions I should be aiming for when I took this shot. Luckily for me, Melbourne is a city where having 4 seasons in one day is the norm and it was a bit overcast so no nasty sharp shadows. Also the tall buildings would have contributed to the lighting.Equipment
I used my favourite, compact and lightweight travel camera the Panasonic Lumix FZ100. I find this super zoom camera very efficient for travel purposes because I don't have to carry any extra lenses and I don't miss any shots because I'm busy changing them.Inspiration
I wanted to capture some of the graffiti Melbourne is so famous for and when I spotted these two buskers, I knew they would add to the story. As it turns out, they became the main event of this shot and I think they stole the show :)Editing
The original photo was taken in colour but I felt the vibrant graffiti was competing too much with my two musical heroes so I chose to process to Black and White. In my camera bag
When I travel I only take my trusty FZ100 for the convenience it offers. When I'm not travelling I use a Nikon D3200 which usually has the 18mm-55mm kit lens attached to it. In my bag I carry a 50mm-200mm kit lens and a 1.8, 50mm prime lens.Feedback
If you're hitting the streets in Melbourne at any stage, the graffiti laneways are a must. A quick search will provide you with location maps on your phone to help you find your way. Each one has it's own unique character and you never know, like me, you may be lucky enough to have a couple of buskers or something similar wander into your shot to create further interest.
