This image was captured in Ontario, Canada close to Mitchell.Time
It was roughly 5pm, on a hot sticky afternoon with a cold front clashing with the humid airmassLighting
Lighting a scene with a dark dramatic storm incoming can be tricky at times, you want to have a visible foreground but keep that dark dramatic sky in the back to capture the viewers attentionEquipment
Believe for this photo at the time it was just a Canon T2I with the basic Kit lens of 18-55 back in 2014.Inspiration
Thunderstorms have always been a fascination for me since I was a child, so of course once I gained my drivers licence I began to chase them whenever possible, to capture and share the beauty of a severe thunderstorm.Editing
Only a small bit back in 2014.I was still toying with Photoshop and Light room at the time, mostly camera raw and colour edits at the time, and a horrible watermark hahaIn my camera bag
Today I carry a Canon 6D, Canon 70D and GoPro Hero 5 along with tripods, ND Filters, 24-70 2.8, Rokinon 14mm, 70-200, and a Pluto trigger for timelapsing and lightning captures.Feedback
Pay attention to the weather patterns and if possible start self forecasting, as there is numerous sites offering weather models online. Be aware of the danger from the weather as well as shooting on active roadways. Start small with basic clouds and work your way into being in the core of a storm. Always pay attention to radar and velocity data during a chase to avoid getting yourself in a dangerous situation.
