Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo during the Aliwan Festival held every summer (April) in Manila Philippines. Aliwan Festival features all the Festivals around the Philippines, they perform and compete to decide which festival is the best.

Time

This was taken in the afternoon, but with overcast skies. I had to squeeze myself from the throngs of photographers who were also trying to get a decent shot of the performers.

Lighting

This was all natural light, as it was taken on an open field.

Equipment

I used my old reliable Nikon D90 plus Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 lens for this shot, especially the lens, it's one of my favorite lenses of all time.

Inspiration

Aliwan Festival is a photographers haven. As a newbie when I took this shot, I had this festival on my check list. Together with a friend, we drove 2 hrs to Manila to shoot. I met so many experienced photographers during the festival, they gave me tips and I was able to observe how they shoot. I've been to Aliwan Festival a few more times since the initial time.

Editing

Yes, I did post-processed this image. I enhanced the colors, apply vignette as well as dodge and burn.

In my camera bag

Since I love street photography I normally just have one body (D90 or D7000) & one lens (Tamron 17-50mm).

Feedback

Shooting festivals is so much fun, you have all the elements present to capture a great shot. What I have in mind when I shoot festivals is that I want to capture colors, emotions, movements etc. Your photo needs to show the festive spirit of the event. Your audience need to feel that they were actually watching the festival live and that they were on the scene themselves.
