Behind The Lens

Bald Mountain Beach in Orion, MI

Time

I shot this photo around 4:00pm on 7/11/2012. It was a nice clear day and wasn't too humid.

Lighting

I was sitting on the beach watching the birds fly around and staying just under a canopy so I wasn't victim to any droppings. I was lucky enough to catch this one getting ready to land. The sun was just bright enough to get this shot right without too much lighting for a washout.

Equipment

I used a Canon EOS 40D. F-stop: f/10. Exposure: 1/1000 sec. ISO: 400. Focal length: 200 mm. No flash.

Inspiration

I enjoy photographing many things. Nature, animals, and birds are my favorites.

Editing

I don't like to edit any photos. Most of my photos are the way they came from the camera. If I have to edit every photo I take, I'd never get finished.

In my camera bag

I usually carry my Canon EOS Rebel T2i in my bag along with the 50mm and 75-300mm lens. I also like to carry my 58mm 2x telephoto lens and 58mm wide angle lens from Zeikos. Don't Hate! They work just fine. I carry a Canon Speedlite 420EX flash and extra batteries. I get annoyed when I'm in the middle of the woods and my battery dies so I now have 8 of them I keep charged just for the occassion. I have an FLD, CPL, and UV filters in one set. I also like to keep my 1X,2X,4X and 10X close up filters in my bag to make sure I get the detail in some of the photos I take. That doesn't include the set of 40 other filters in a pack I keep in there for many other shots.

Feedback

To capture images like this one, you just have to be patient. Sometimes the best shots are not those that are posed. Be ready for a split second decision on when to click that shutter. Enjoy.
