Behind The Lens
Location
This image was taken in Vancouver, BC. It is a view of the Vancouver Yacht Club as seen from Stanley Park.Time
This image was taken during a long walk in the late afternoon in mid September. I was actually on my honeymoon, but a photographer never goes sight-seeing without a camera.Lighting
The sun was preparing to set, and given that summer was coming to an end, the light was soft and warm. The puffy clouds in the sky also helped to diffuse the sunshine, contributing to the evenness of the photo (not too many harsh shadows present).Equipment
I shoot everything professionally with Canon cameras. However, as I was on vacation, I carried a smaller Panasonic camera on this day. No flash or tripod were used here.Inspiration
The subtle color tones and the skyline reflection in the calm river water. I thought it was absolutely beautiful.Editing
Aside from minor color and exposure adjustments, no post processing was used.In my camera bag
Normally, I carry: two Canon 60D's, a Canon 70-200 lens, a Canon 50mm lens, a Canon 10-18mm lens, a Canon 580EX II Speedlite, and a plethora of batteries, adapters, radio transmitters, and other accessories.Feedback
Keep an eye on the sky! Light is everything, and in terms of shooting landscapes, we cannot control the light that falls on our scene. So, we must wait until nature provides the perfect setting. Mornings and afternoons are key times to shoot, and light is especially delicate in the winter months. Clouds will help diffuse the sunshine, as they did here, and they also add drama and interest to the sky.
