Mjóifjörður is a narrow fjord with an exceptionally fine climate. Old footpaths to neighbouring fjords lie through high mountain passes. Birch shrub grows in much of the fjord and green hills coverd in blueberries and crowberries in autumn. Around the turn of the century there was a fairly large settlement in Mjóifjörður, but few people live there now. The fjord is famous for its beautifully green landscape and of course the fresh clam you can try at the only local restaurant, Sólbrekka. The Klifbrekkufossar waterfalls are situated in the bottom of the fjord, Mjóifjörður. The waterfalls are in the river Fjarðará and cascade down from the heath in a stair-step pattern amidst green grassy slopes sheltered by murky cliff walls. A great place for photographing!
