Location
This photograph has always been a favorite of mine. It was taken at Cornell University on a summer day with some great lighting, allowing me to capture some awesome shadows.Time
I had spent the morning driving down the lakeside of Cayuga Lake,an area filled with amazing landscapes and beautiful wineries. I stopped and photographed a few on the way. My intention was to walk the Cornell Campus in Ithaca, NY and get some great architectural pictures to add to my portfolio. I was not disappointed when I arrived on campus. The buildings were beautiful and these arches and their amazing designs drew me in. So much detail. So much beauty. I had to photograph it!Lighting
Luckily for me the lighting in the area that day was great! It usually tends to be over the Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York. All I had to do was snap away. Nature did the rest!Equipment
For this shot I used my cannon rebel. All of my favorite photographs tend to be taken with my rebel.Inspiration
What inspired me...? The place itself, the history, the sunlight, the stone walls, the arches, the beautiful old wooden door at the end of the hallway, the grand view outside of those windows. It was like being at Hogwarts only better....this was real and I had the place to myself!Editing
I took this picture in a large series that day, all of which were taken as full color photographs. This one needed something different. When I edited it using a black&white tool, the shadows began to pop off the page. Nothing more really needed to be done. It was a bold and beautiful work of architectural design. In my camera bag
I usually don't have much with me other then my cannon rebel camera and maybe an extra lense or two. The beauty in life is pretty easy to capture if you look around enough.Feedback
My advice is simple... Don't try too hard. Let the photograph speak for itself. There is beauty all around us and it's just waiting for you to take a closer look....to see beyond what's right in front of your face. I could spend an afternoon photographing one single flower. There is so much more beauty in it to be discovered.
