On January 11th 2014 a fire raged through the 1,300 year old village formally known as Dukezong "city of moonlight" destroying over 100 buildings and homes. This village now known as Shangri la was a major tourist attraction for visitors around the world to Yunnan China. On my journey there I was met with incredible beauty but also great sadness when I took in the devastation of this great and historic village. Today just under half of the ancient village remains. I still highly recommend anyone interested in visiting Shangri la to take the trip. The openness and beauty of this place is overwhelming..
