Behind The Lens

Location

I was on a job assignment in Harrogate, England. This photo was taken in a beautiful city park where I spent many weekends.

Time

This was taken early one Sunday morning after a night of rain showers. It was cold and damp and very few people besides me had ventured out!

Lighting

I believe the cloudy, overcast day adds to the mood of this photo. I live in USA and had been gone away from home for several months. The cold, dark sky and these empty benches just seemed to fall in place with my mood and state of mind that morning.

Equipment

I took this with a Sony DSC-W300 that I had purchased in England. I still have this camera and a small pouch that clips on my belt loop. A few weeks later I bought my first DSLR.

Inspiration

I love photography and I am always looking for what I think would make a good photo that would convey a feeling or mood. To me, this scene just cried lonely.

Editing

After I downloaded my photos from the day and came to this one, I thought it would really convey a feeling of darkness and loneliness if it were in gray scale. It has always been one of my favorite yet simple photos.

In my camera bag

I am really into birding and bird photography now. Since this photo, I have upgraded to a Canon 5D Mark ll and a Canon f5.6 400 mm prime lens. I also have a Canon Speedlite 430 EX ll flash and a better beamer flash attachment. I still always have my little Sony clipped on my belt loop!

Feedback

Photo opportunities are everywhere. A person just needs to be aware of there environment at all times. I was raised fishing and hunting. I still fish but all my hunting is now done with a camera in my hand, not a gun. Photography for me is the same as hunting. I can get my macro lens and spend all day in my yard photographing insects and plants!
