Behind The Lens

Location

IN Dayton Ohio at what's called the Englewood Dam. There's a small plot of land used exclusively for growing flowers for birds and butter flies

Time

Late morning in the fall.

Lighting

I was still learning about lighting. Early morning sun in the fall is low doesn't give off as much warmth so catching any insect is a plus

Equipment

Nikon D3000. I basicly used a kit lens 200mm , Carrying a tripod is just too heavy for me As well as when trying to catch butter flies you have to be able to move fast.

Inspiration

I'm more about color contrast than anything in nature. The orange of the General butter fly vs the pink of the cone just made the whole thing look brilliant

Editing

Very little. I don't like the way it looks too many times so I only do enough to make colors stand out

In my camera bag

Back then very little. I had just the normal 55mm lens and the 200mm. I've never a problem with a battery running out on me so I never carried extras. I always carried extra cards. I would constantly forget to put a card back in the camera or I started learning to carry extra in the bag for such emergencies.

Feedback

PATIENCE!! Insects won't sit still and smile pretty. They may be zipping around so fast and not laning anywhere for more than a few seconds. IN that case you might consider waiting 24 hours by then they will normally settle down and start feeding more.
