Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo in an 19th century victorian home.Time
This photo was taken around midnight which could not be much more suiting for the subject.Lighting
The lighting in this image is all ambient, i felt that the harsh beam of light coming straight down onto the subject added to the drama of the scene.Equipment
To take this photo I used a nikon D5100 with a tamron 10-20 mm wide angle lens.Inspiration
In some twist of events between friends i ended up housesitting for a man named Micheal. This was obviously an older home and had a lot of personality, so as i nosily inspected the whole home like any good home sitter would do, i made my way to the second story. A small door at the top of the stairs led me into a oddly situated attic and what more fitting to be in there than a set of porcelain dolls. I was instantly inspired to take some photos of the dolls and after several different compositions, i came upon this scene and i knew instantly it was going to be great.Editing
The post processing in this was very minimal, slight change in tone and contrast, and what else to top it off than a little glow of red in the eyes of the doll.In my camera bag
Now the things i carry in my camera bag are much different than when i took this photo. I shoot with a Nikon d600 and a variety of different lenses. Wide angle, macro, 50mm,400mm, a neutral density filter, a flash and a bunch of SD cards.Feedback
I have always been fond of finding ambient light and using it to create drama. When in search for something like this you must be sure that your lighting scene and subject are all equally as interesting to create a good photograph. I only say good because it is very rare that a person takes a truly great photograph. So take your time, try new things, and dont ever be afraid of failure.
