Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at Carlsbad Beach California (USA). I love the ocean and there's something magical about watching the sun set over the water! I am a self taught, passion filled photographer, who grew up near the beaches on the coast of Eastern England. I now live with my Family in Arizona USA.

Time

This picture "Golden Sunset" is one of my favorites and I have a very large canvas print hanging on my wall at home. I took this at 7:00pm just as the sun was setting in April this year. I set up my camera on a tripod at the end of a large sea groin it was very cold and windy but worth every moment to have witnessed and captured this moment.

Lighting

As you know capturing sunsets is always something special with amazing colors. But to capture this perfect moment the sun has to be directly central in the lens to get this sun flare effect.

Equipment

This was shot using a Pentax K-50 using 18-250mm lens on a tripod. Camera settings ISO-200, f/11, 1/250 sec.

Inspiration

I have always loved to capture sunsets and who needs more inspiration than to be surrounded by the beauty of nature?

Editing

This capture didn't need much post processing.

In my camera bag

I usually try and keep my camera bag pretty light. This time I had my trusted Pentax 18-135mm and 18-250mm A couple of spare batteries and SD cards and my trusted tripod. Lens cleaning equipment and different filters and a good jacket to keep warm!

Feedback

Be passionate about what you love to capture and be patient for that special moment in time. You might not get the result you wanted the first time but with patience and trying several times you just might just get that special moment captured. Be aware of weather and your environment of light and conditions. Most of all enjoy what you are trying to create.
