Oh yeah I very much suspect it's dead. No stinger no wing movement front legs crippled over face in a splash of paint. Most definitely dead. That being said. It's still a great shot.

Did you use a dead bee as a prop or was it flying into the paint? Either way, congrats! It's absolutely fantastic!

Oh my!! Wow!!! Thankyou everyone so much for your most awesome comments and recognitions..
This was a dead bee i found a few days before I took the picture. It was taken using a homemade high speed flash trigger. The trigger was made using an Arduino board and laser beam, the laser beam was set about a foot above the surface, lights off, camera in bulb mode. When the drop of acrylic paint breaks the laser beam it triggers the flash. The delay on the flash trigger is programmed with javascript so that the flash goes off at just the right moment :)

Location
I took this photo on my bedroom floor.Time
The photo was taken early one evening.Lighting
The lighting and exposure were achieved using a Nikon Speedlight, off camera.. I built myself a flash trigger using infrared lasers as the trigger, whrich set the flash off when the drop of paint broke the beam.. The room had to be in complete darkness during photo taking.Equipment
I used a Nikon D90, Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro lens, Nikon Speedlight S800 and a homemade laser beam flash trigger.Inspiration
I was experimenting with high speed flash photography and paint drops when I found a dead bee on the windowsillEditing
No post processing execpt maybe a slight crop.In my camera bag
Nowadays I carry a Nikon D800, a Nikon 135mm f/2, a Nikon 16-35mm f/4 and a Nikon 50mm f/1.8.Feedback
Experiment, have fun, use what you have at hand, try to think outside of the box but above all, have fun :)
