Here we see the `Petrifying Well` at Knaresborough, in Yorkshire, England. It is known as this due to the constant water that drips from above which is enriched with calcite. People are invited to hang articles below the dripping water which over a period of months collects the calcite and appears to turn them to stone. The most famous person to leave an item under the dripping waters was `Queen Mary` who donated a shoe which can now be found in the local museum. In ancient times people thought this was a form of magic or curse put on the `Well` by a local witch known as `Mother Shipton`, others believed the water to hold medicinal powers.
