Location
This picture was taken at our farms pond.Time
Early eveningLighting
I liked the way the sun peeked through two sets of clouds causing the light to detail and reflect off the tips of the plants surrounding the pond.Equipment
I took this shot free handed with a Nikon D800 and my AF-S DX Nikkor 18-140mm lens and a polarize filter.Inspiration
I liked how the light looked reflecting off of the plants. The purple fetch added some nice color and I felt the clouds added a nice touch as well. The orange of the sunset was just beginning and blended well with the whole scene.Editing
I have to admit I am a complete novice at this. I used light room to try and get the picture to how I had remembered it. I simple played around with light room until I got the picture close to what my eye was seeing and it felt right to me. These are the settings that I have for this picture. Highlights -100,Shadows +100,Whites -100,blacks +100,clarity +100,Vibrancy +100,Saturation +17,Sharpness 84,Radius 1.8,Detail 0,Masking 79In my camera bag
Extra battery,cleaning cloth and spray.Feedback
I don't feel, as a novice at this craft, qualified to give advice. With that said, I try to keep things simple, lenses are cleaned, and with this type of shot I suggest to use a polarize filter. The time of day is important, I took this shot just before the sunset and the sky had just started to get a tinge of orange. The sun has to be at a certain height as well as angle to cause the highlighting on the plants surrounding the pond. The light off of the plants will look as if they are glowing. Thanks you for your interest in this photo. While a lot of luck went into it, I am still proud of how it came out. I am grateful to all those that have enjoyed it. I am thankful to the View bug community and their thoughtful comments as well as their helpful instruction.
