Location
This photo was taken in a parkland in Toowoomba,Queensland, one of the most picturesque cities I have ever lived in. It is a photographer's delight with numerous beautiful gardens and parklands.Time
This photo was taken as the sun was setting, during mid-summer about 5:00pm, possibly later.Lighting
Lighting at this time of day is always tricky as it can cause false readings but also unexpected results. However I loved the way the sun glinted off this beautiful white-pink ghost gum tree.Equipment
My little amateur camera is a Canon digital Powershot SX170 IS.Inspiration
Sunset photography is one of my ultimate favourites. Walking through this park, I was looking at the red-gold sunlight hitting across different species of gum trees, which created numerous colour variations. When I saw the ethereal light glinting through this piece of bark at knee height it immediately made me think of a golden hand that needed to be captured.Editing
I have never used post-processing on my photos. In my camera bag
Unfortunately this basic digital camera has a fixed lens so there is not a lot of room to experiment with filters like I use to do with my old manual Ricoh XR10 SLR camera. So for now it is just the basics - a trusted and essential tripod and some cleaning equipment.Feedback
For any landscape shot, especially in tricky light a tripod is a must. But using various colour & graduation filters can enhance or deepen the natural colours of sunset to make the dramatic lighting from this time of day even more amazing. As with photography in general, experiment to your hearts content because surprise results always happen when you least expect it!
