Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken on Independence Pass in Colorado several years ago.Time
It was midday when we reached the pass and got out for a view.Lighting
The sun wasn’t directly overhead, and there were alot of puffy clouds so there were softer midday shadows which helped keep colors and shapes crisp but not dark.Equipment
This was shot using a Canon EOS R5 with 24-105mm Lens.Inspiration
It was more intended for capturing a memory but the red dress stood out so much in contrast to the natural tones of the mountains that I wanted to see how it photographed. I had experienced something similar years before when photographing a historic building from a street view where a red traffic light popped against the blue sky and trees to become as much a focal point as the building, and this image turned out to have the same effect.Editing
Nothing was done after processing because I find the image looks natural and unplanned. In my camera bag
Since I don’t like to lug alot of things around, I always keep the basics - Canon camera, small tripod, popup light reflector and handheld flash in case it becomes necessary (though I rarely use it).Feedback
Just get in the habit of seeing images in a frame so you can spot the best angle from which to view a subject to spend less time on setup/shooting and more time enjoying the moment.
