Behind The Lens

Location

Rancho Real vineyard in Santa Maria, Santa Barbara County.

Time

2pm

Lighting

back to the sun.

Equipment

Canon t3i, 135mm Zeiss prime.

Inspiration

The fall colours in the vineyard had that special glow.

Editing

This is a very difficult shot. I took about 60 images with the plan to merge them in photoshop. Bear in mind this was taken with 135mm, the final image weighed in at almost 4GB. Distance, depth, breadth and detail were foremost when I took the shots. In post, after the merging, some cropping and a slight amount of contrast.

In my camera bag

Canon t31, Yashica 28mm, Zeiss 50mm, Zeiss 85mm, Zeiss 135mm. Extra batteries, memory cards.

Feedback

Really plan you shot out fully before trying this method, it takes a lot of concentration and study beforehand as well as a good memory of where you start and where you finish to ensure you have captured the whole scene. With such a large amount of images, it also takes about an hour of processing time before the image is stitched/merged together. I use a 27 inch mac and have it fully loaded with memory but it's best to have no other programs running while this kind of shooting is processed.
