Thanks! it's a little hard to do sometimes when people had to much to drink at the wedding and i am worried they will burn themselves with the sparkler!

Behind The Lens

Location

This was photo was taken at The Crystal Plaza, Livingston, NJ

Time

We had to wait for it to get very dark so we can do this painting by light photo, taken around 11pm.

Lighting

lighting on this photo can be a bit tricky. The sparklers will be exposed correctly with the long exposure, but the bride & groom can end up very dark. To compensate for this, I used a L.E.D light to illuminate the couple.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D800, tripod and remote. Off Camera L.E.D light

Inspiration

I get a little bored with the typical night photos. We had some sparklers and decided to play around with them for the shoot. Turned out to be one of my favorite photos and i get requested for this photo at every wedding.

Editing

Minor adjustments in lightroom to bring out the photo and sparklers just a bit.

In my camera bag

Everything!! Like a boy scout always be prepared. You never know what you will need or if something will go wrong and you need a back up. I have 2 Nikon D800's, 1 Nikon D700, 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4, 105 macro 2.8, 11-24 2.8, 3 sb900's, 2 sb910s, 2 sb710s, 1 indra500,

Feedback

Take your time, just the exposure correct before you waste your time with the sparklers. It can take multiple times to get correctly. You will need to review each photo on LED screen to see if anyone is not moving fast enough, or need to make a bigger letter. You have less then 2-3 mins before the sparklers go out. Great practice would be using a flashlight and will save you some money instead of buying sparklers. ALWAYS check with the venue and make sure you are allowed to use the sparklers on the property and do not use indoors.
