Upon my arrival, only an hour existed before storms converged overhead. The lightning, hail, steady rains, and saturated clothing forced me into hiding all day. I retired for the evening without any opportunity to dry out.
The next morning it returned for an eight-hour assault, forcing me into hiding again; and now depression, questioned why I was here. Twice I emerged to speak to the skies and broker a truce, only to be forced into siege again. It seemed another day would be squandered without reward.
However, five minutes before sunset, in my moment of deepest despair, my shelter turned ablaze in light. I emerged again to see what cruel joke was being played now, but near the shore I could hear the report of someone cry out "RAINBOW!!!". I turned and also exclaimed "RAINBOW!!!". In the last moments of light while composing my art, I heard the same report echoing at different points around the lake, by others who endured the same hardships. As I was complete, the sky surrendered to darkness. For 26 hours of suffering, this image was my reward – and I was at peace.
