Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken in Jefferson Barracks Cemetery. It had just snowed the night before and I was on duty. One of my sergeants was on honor guard for the funeral that day and I went to check on him since it was so cold. I spotted this afterwards in the snow where an Airman was standing at attention near the grave site.

Time

By the time the funeral near by was finished and all had left to warn up it was about 1500. The wind finally died down and the sun was attempting to break through. A cold and crisp day where you can hear the flag pre clanging and the flag wiping in the wind.

Lighting

Snow is so beautiful, it is a shame however that it melts away and can sometimes make us feel colder than when it arrived to cover the dirt. Sometimes it's nice to see someone else's foot steps.

Equipment

Nikon D3200 18-55mm

Inspiration

I don't know whether to say patriotism, honor, respect for our fallen, or just peace. It's hard to just put a single explanation on it. The scene just warmed me knowing that there are those who continue to stand guard and fight on even in the cold and dark days.

Editing

I upped the clarity to really make the text and boot tracks pop put and contrast against the snowy white background.

In my camera bag

Nikon D3200, D5100, Nikkor 18-55mm 3.5-5.6G lens, 55-300mm 4.5-5.6G lens, 50mm 1.8G "nifty fifty", Sigma 10-20mm 4-5.6DC, two Yongnuo YN560-II Speed lights

Feedback

I am always on the go and usually very busy and photography is one of those things I do for a job but it's also a passion. My advice is to enjoy everything you can in life, and remember that God has a strange sense of humour so it's always best to keep a camera at your side because you never know what is going to happen or what beauty you will discover.
