Location
This was taken at a local zoo. In the winter they allow people to walk through for free. It was a bit cold, but it was a great day for trying to take pictures, since there was hardly anyone else around.Time
This was in the afternoon. It was a little chilly, but what winter day in Michigan isn't!Lighting
It was just a typical winter Michigan day. Overcast, but bright!Equipment
I actually took this a few years ago, so I don't remember all of the details. I shoot with Canon. It was definitely natural lighting.Inspiration
I have always loved the majesty of eagles. They are such graceful, and beautiful creatures. I spent a good amount of time just admiring them, while I took several photographs of them. I loved how this one turned out.Editing
I always do some post-processing. I typically try and keep photographs like this true to natural. I shoot in raw, so I always bump up the saturation and contrast in post.In my camera bag
It really depends on what I am shooting. I am mostly a portrait photographer. Typically, anything non-portrait is stuff I just captured because it was my mood at the time. I typically always have my Canon 5D Mark IV, 24-70mm and 70-200mm lenses, and my nifty 50. I also carry a couple magnification filters that I may or may not have stolen from my dad. =) But I don't use them very often.Feedback
I captured this through the fence at the zoo. I used a longer lens, so I could zoom in and keep the fence out of focus. Which basically made it invisible. My best advice is to just be patient, and take a lot of pictures. Sometimes the best shots are ones that were in between the "planned" shots. If you want to do zoo pictures, the best time to go is in the off season. Then you don't have to fight crowds, or worry about being in someone else's way. And most importantly, have fun!
