beautiful image. Love how the mist gradually obscures the background!

Location
This photo was taken in the Blue Ridge Parkway during one of my favorite weather conditions. There is something about fog that is very attractive to me. It is quiet, intriguing. My nickname is The Fog Chaser and for a reason. I love those foggy mornings.Time
At 7:27 am to be exact...Early, the earlier the better. There is something about being in the mountains close to sunrise that is very unique. I try to do it as often as I can. Not always possible but I do try.Lighting
Since it was very foggy, I had to play with the settings until I got what I wanted. The light is always a tricky thing to handle in conditions like this. At the same time, it sort gives you some latitude because the light is diffused by the fog. So you can play a little.Equipment
I used my Nikon D90 and Nikkor 16-85. That is it. I am not complicated with my equipment. I do have to say I have added some new toys to my collection since this photo was taken. And I use them frequently. Like I have a Nikon D7100, a manfrotto tripod, and some new lenses. But I seem to gravitate to the familiar. I do like my 7100 though.Inspiration
The path to nowhere I think. That is what came to mind. I know this path well but the fog created the sense of mystery I was looking for. I think the opportunity was there to capture the solitary feel of the occasion, so I grabbed it. I am self-taught so I try to go with what moves me. I have this image in my head of what the moment entails and so I play until I get what I envision. It gives me the freedom to play.Editing
Yes, I did. I had to open up the shadows a little, add a filter to create the warm effect, and darken the trees in the foreground to add contrast to the light down the path.In my camera bag
I have a Nikon D7100, Nikkor 16-85, Nikkor 18-140; several filters that I rarely use; several memory cards, a couple of remotes; a Nikon D90; some extra batteries, cloth to wipe my lens, Nikkor 50 mm (just in case I find a interesting human to photograph) and some hook-ups for the i-pad. And some inspiration. :)Feedback
Don't try to imitate others...take the scene in and use your imagination. Do what you think is right, not what you have seen someone else do.
