Thanks for the memories, Tess! Reluctantly we kids were forced to the local barber by dad ... we hated it! ! Well done photo!

Great flashback to haircuts which I always hated. Seemed like the shears were never sharp and pulled each hair out one at a time. Super portrait!

I just hated it when this happened to me. This guy is going to have this picture around a very very long time! At least he looks great.

la stessa identica espressione sul viso avevo anch'io quando a 5 anni mi tagliarono i capelli...ricordo ancora il tonfo sul pavimento della mia lunga treccia.... povero

Location
At the local hair salon, while my son was getting a hair cut.Time
Early evening, indoorsLighting
Shot with available light only. Light was coming in through the big windows at the front of the salon.Equipment
Nikon D3, 24-70mm @ 70mm f2.8 1/100. Hand held, no flash.Inspiration
Initially I was just documenting my sons haircut, but realized when going back through the images what a perfectly timeless image I had, and his expression makes me smile.Editing
After discovering this gem in my images, I decided to give it a vintage feel, to enhance the timelessness of the moment. I did my normal color correct, sharpen, levels, then slightly desaturated and gave it a sepia type overlay and texture overlay with the texture masked out of my sons face.In my camera bag
For portraits I normally carry my Nikon D800 (D3 for sports, or very low light like in this case). I almost always have my Nikkor 24-70mm 2.8 and Nikkor 70-200mm 2.8 with me and an SB600 speedlight, though I rarely use it. My most recent purchase and new favorite lens is the Nikkor 85mm 1.4.Feedback
Every day moments can make fantastic images!! Look for great expressions and timeless moments. When photographing your children's activities that include other people, don't be afraid to let them know what you need to get a good image - in this case the stylist turned my sons face toward the window so I could have better light.
