Behind The Lens

Location

I am amateur self-taught photographer and I don't have a studio so I took this photo at my home.

Time

It was after sunset so it was dark, which was more suitable for this photo.

Lighting

The lighting is the key for this photo. There are plenty of photos around with direct or lots of lighting. My idea from the start was to use as less light as possible so the shape of the body will be the center of attention. On this photo I used a wireless Canon 430EX II Speedlite flash mounted on a tripod on the side (about 30 degrees) to the front. I also used a radial ND filter so the only light was coming from the flash.

Equipment

I used a Canon 600D camera with a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 lens with a radial ND filter and a Canon 430EX II Speedlite flash mounted on a tripod.

Inspiration

There are plenty of nude photos around, and I wanted to make something different, I wanted to capture the beauty of the female body in its natural form, the sensuality without nudity. So in this case my attention and all the credits go to the model, her long hair, beautiful back and the attractive waist-to-hip ratio.

Editing

I used very little post-processing. Some skin cleaning and contrast modification.

In my camera bag

Usually I'm an outdoor photographer. So I always carry UV filters for my lenses, a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 and a Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6. and a radial ND filter for the Tamron. Along with a Velbon tripod I also have a spider tripod and spare battery is useful the have at any time. Also I always carry a lens pen, a clean lens is essential for a clean photo.

Feedback

Simple is sometimes better. Different is always better. Find some photo that you like, but don't copy it, be creative and upgrade it. Put something in the photography that is yours, original. Use the lighting, but not always from the front. Use the background.
