Location
This photo was taken in our back garden. We have many irises of many colours. When they are out I practice taking shots, varying the angle, the f/stop and all other settings, trying to get that perfect shot.Time
The photo was taken in the late afternoon, on a heavily clouded day.Lighting
As it had been raining for most of the day I didn't think I was going to be able to get any decent shots, but I cranked up the ISO to 400 which enabled me to get the shutter speed to 1/350 sec. Focal length was 175mm and f/4.5 and no exposure bias.Equipment
I just used my old Canon 10D and a Sigma 28-300mm lens. It was a hand held photo.Inspiration
I have always loved rain drops on flowers and leaves and it really makes it when you like the flower as well. Irises always put on such a good show.Editing
No post processing at all. I took it as a raw photo and this is how It came out of the camera when converted to a JPG.In my camera bag
Since buying my new Canon 60D, I always have a Canon 18-200 , a Sigma 10-20mm and a Tamron 150-600mm lenses. I also a Canon Extender, just in case I need to take a close up. Although with the Tamron lens I can usually get quite a good close up from quite a distance away.Feedback
Luck plays a big part in photos like this. Having the rain and enough light and very little wind to get a fast enough shot that's not going to blur. Basically just go out side every time it has stopped raining and try to get a shot. You may be surprised with what you end up and don't be scared to try different angles to the norm and play around with the settings as well.
