This photo was taken during the college ballroom team competitions at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana. The dance floor was filled with the couples of all levels. everyone regardless of the skill level, be it beginners or seasoned competitors were lost in the dance and music.Time
It was one of most exciting days for me. Not only i was about to witness something that i myself love dearly - dance, dance, dance and music, but I was given a chance to emerge into that magic on the grounds of the gorgeous university among college student, and get to share their energy and excitement. But that wasn't all: one of the dancers was also my beautiful daughter who transformed on the dance floor into dancing muse. There were tears in my eyes as I breathed in that magic.Lighting
The competition took place at the large room which probably on ordinary days served as the college gym. However, it was a gorgeous days outside, and the room was filled with sunlight finding its way in and room lights. Sort of strange yet somewhat magic mixture of the yellow room lights transformed by the beauty from the outside.Equipment
Canon 40d, no flash, no tripod, just laying at the edge of the dance floor, risking to be stepped on :)Inspiration
I love the dance. I used to dance when i was a student, and anything dance to me is magical. I am always searching for that graceful movement that tells the story and compliments and even changes the music you hear.Editing
My approach to editing is usually very minimalist. I strive to take the photo at the right angle, to do the best I can to frame it right. However, my passion is black and white, and that is the only processing that I have done. Why black and white? I think it is because then it leaves naked emotion and it is for the human eye to fill in any color. I may imagine it in red on some days, or blue on the others, it lets the fantasy take over.In my camera bag
I almost never have a tripod. But i usually have 50mm 1.4 lens and some kind of all around zoom lensFeedback
You will probably be disappointed by the advice i give, because I dont have the secret sauce. Of course finding that magic light where the object of the photo gets a bit of dramatic effect is always something critical. As Antoine de Saint-Exupéry once said : What is essential is invisible to the eye, it is only with the heart one can see. I believe that the mission of the photographer is to convey what the heart sees.
